Some of you may have heard that former Yankees pitcher, Mike Mussina has become a consultant to Little League Baseball. What a cool thing to do, right?
What you may not have heard is that he, along with the rest of the board of Little League has gone on record saying that there is no difference between a ball coming off a metal bat and a ball coming off a wood bat.
Little League preaches about safety of the kids as their number one priority but continues to contradict itself every step of the way. Ridiculously high pitch counts (which only recently were put into place), the allowance of pitchers to throw as many curveballs as they like and the insistence that there is no danger in using space age materials in bats clearly illustrates that Little League Baseball is only interested in publicity and revenue.
Mike Mussina, instead of becoming a voice of reason at a time when we desperately need one, has simply sold out and it’s disgusting.
There’s a lot to talk about here. Is there any real evidence that there’s a difference between metal and wood bats? Does Little League have the best interest of the kids in mind? Does the endorsement of major leaguers simply perpetuate the lingering problems of Little League and help them pile more money into their coffers?

To say there is no difference between wood bats and metal bats is like sayingt there is no difference between a player on steroids and one that is not. At any level of play, the baseball will travel farther and harder when it comes off a metal bat.
OK so what does that say about a stooge like Mussina and the idiots who run Little League?
