The six-year old Booty Cheer Girl was removed from a flag football cheerleading squad following complaints from parents that one of the team’s cheers was too suggestive. Kennedy Tesch was voted off the team unanimously after a meeting Tuesday night, prompting an outcry from her parents.

The cheer at the center of the controversy is the following, according to FoxNews.com: “Our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shake our booties from left to right.” It was the Tesch family that first voiced concern over the cheer, which prompted the Tuesday night meeting. But instead of working through the family’s concern the little girl was ousted from the squad.

The fear, Kennedy’s parents said, is the devastation that may follow.

“I don’t even have the words,” Jennifer Tesch said in the FoxNews report. “I can’t believe their solution to this was to remove my daughter from the team. She’s going to be devastated. She’s going to be crying.”

This is the sad side effect when families get too involved in youth sports. That the parents voiced public concern over the cheer was probably mortifying enough for the poor little girl. Now she’s been vilified by teammates and parents alike.

Someone in charge of the team or organization itself needs to have control of this situation. Parents shouldn’t be able to hold meetings and vote people off without some sort of checks and balances. This is where personal vendettas and silly biases come into play too often. Parents, for all their attempts at impartiality, are essentially incapable of seeing things clearly when children – especially little children playing sports – are involved.

So where are the adults to keep the other adults in line?

This is a shame, because the one getting hurt here is the six-year old girl who had nothing to do with any of the controversy. And that’s what everyone involved seems to be overlooking here.

Let’s hope someone sees the light before it’s too late.

I’n not sure if I follow this story. I assume someone is managing the squad. They made up the cheer, the girls parents complained and the kid gets tossed from the squad? What about the adult that actually made up the cheer? She gets a pass? Or is she stating that the 6 year old made up the cheer and forced the manager to let them do it?

    Eric

This is really a case of everyone except the 6 yr old and her parents thinking that the cheer was fine. This girl got booted because she rocked the boat. That’s the sad part. idiot adults make up something inappropriate for baby girls to do in public, one family says what everyone else is thinking and the moron adults (who are in charge of these babies) give her the boot to scare the rest of the parents before they have a mutiny on their hands. And do the rest of the parents stand up for the family who did what was right? Of course not…welcome to youth sports!
