By now, most of you have heard about Robert Burton, a wealthy CT man who has donated roughly $7M to UConn’s athletic program and whose name is on the football complex at the school. This week, Burton informed UConn that he wants his money back and wants his name off the complex.

Why, you may ask? Not because of illegal recruiting activity. Not because of an illegal substance scandal. Not because of financial kickbacks to a star player. Robert Burton is upset because of the process behind the hiring of the new football coach and the athletic director’s decision not to include Burton in the hiring process.

This raises a question surrounding a whole new level of parental entitlement. I personally found myself engaged in highly heated discussion (with myself) back and forth over what the real issue is here.

All I know is that something just isn’t right here and my initial reaction is that this guy Burton is off his rocker.

Can someone please shine some new light on this for me?

    Let the debate begin!!

    Best

    Coach Tony
