I don’t think it has anything to do with gender, I think it has everything to do with who knows what it’s really like to be a part of a sport; more specifically dedication, committment and a sense of loyalty. I’m not saying that sport is more important then family, I’m just saying that there’s a way to do both. Kids now a days are not learning that. Either they are involved in WAY too many things that they cannot possibly put %100 in the things they do or parents in general see sports as an extra-curricular activity that is last on the list. When I was in high school, I made high honors, played three sports and a sport in the summer and worked in a restaurant. Yes, I was busy, but I never short-changed anything! This is partly because my parents believed in sticking with what you “signed up for”. You don’t quit, you try your best and you made a committment. So what gave?…. I was in bed at 10 every night and only went out one day on the weekend to spend time with my friends.

Maura Fletcher is a no nonsense coach and she is a great testament to strong women. I am a womens lacrosse coach in Virginia and I have watched her career over the past few years in awe. Can we hear some of her tips of a successful coach who has the interests of the kids before the “win.”
